ONSF Clinical Education Series Continues – Acute Achilles Ruptures and Lateral Ankle Ligament Injuries

On Wednesday, October 25th and again on Wednesday, November 1st the ONSF hosted a Clinical Education Series seminar entitled Acute Achilles Ruptures and Lateral Ankle Ligament Injuries. Provided free of charge, the program was designed for Physical Therapists, Athletic Trainers and Coaches and took place in the ONSF Arthroscopy, Surgical Skills & Biomechanical Research Laboratory located at 6 Greenwich Office Park, Greenwich, CT.  The lab session consisted of both a didactic section and a hands-on surgical portion demonstrating ankle surgery.

Course objectives: 

• To enhance the sideline management and decision making process regarding Achilles tendon ruptures and lateral ankle injuries

• Review the orthopaedic management of Achilles ruptures in athletes, including the decision-making process, surgical intervention and   postoperative rehabilitation; Review the orthopaedic management of lateral ankle ligament injuries in active patients, including the decision-making process, surgical intervention and postoperative rehabilitation;

• Review the operative management of Achilles tendon ruptures, from percutaneous management to open management as well as lateral ligament repairs/reconstructions.

• Demonstrate an open and percutaneous Achilles tendon and a lateral ligament repair/reconstruction.

• Review the current state of the art for rehabilitation after operative and nonoperative management of acute Achilles tendon ruptures and lateral ankle ligament injuries.
